Surrogate Maternity Contractual Liability Medical Expense Insurance

Intended Parents (IP’s) are matched with a Gestational Surrogate (GS); her health insurance status will determine what type of insurance is used. The two most common outcomes are using (1) the GS’s existing health insurance or (2) a surrogacy specific plan though Universal Family Insurance (UFI), backed by a Lloyd’s of London syndicate. If (1) is selected, IP’s will also purchase a “backup plan” that provides coverage in the event of a denial by the GS’s primary insurance. Pregnancy costs will be covered by insurance (IP’s will incur shared costs called “deductibles” and “co-payments”). If you are using the UFI plan, all billing and payments are managed. The selected insurance plan continues to provide coverage for the GS once she is admitted to the hospital to deliver the baby. The GS is typically covered for any pregnancy related care she needs post-delivery.

Protects the Intended Parents from potential financial loss due to maternity medical complications and effectively manages surrogate’s maternity and childbirth medical billing.

• Eliminates any uncertainty of coverage

• No medical provider network restrictions

Local Monitoring

Local Monitoring*

Local Monitoring is a term used in the surrogacy industry for the monitoring of gestational surrogates and donors at medical providers located at an inconvenient distance from the IVF provider. This typically involves several appointments for blood work and ultrasounds either leading up to a transfer (in the case of a donor) or following the transfer, in the case of the gestational surrogate. Monitoring appointments typically go until the certification of pregnancy (COP), at which point the patient (GC) is released to her OBGYN for standard maternity care.

Local Monitoring is paramount to a successful pregnancy during the IVF process. Appointments cannot be missed or a cycle is considered no longer viable. In addition, there are wide variances in the protocols and amount of services required by the treating IVF provider and wide variances regarding where the surrogates reside, there can exist a wide fluctuation of costs associated with these procedures. The service we provide is to ensure that adequate providers are identified (near the GC and competent in the procedures), no appointments are missed (GC understands and accepts recommended providers), and costs are contained either by finding alternative locations, steering to network providers, or negotiating high costs associated with the care. We use our database as an interface with the customer for timing and coordination of care, as well as internally to manage communication and costs.
